Designed by Darren Campbell Architect it is the lavish central courtyard of the house that becomes the focal point of the home as it enthralls you with meandering walkways private sitting and dining nooks draped in ample greenery and of course the large swimming pool that offers something for every member of the family.
A series of infinity-edge pools walkways and water features act as a transition zone between the cool open and cheerful indoor spaces and the mesmerizing setting outside. White is the color of choice here with a modern minimal take on the classic beach style and hues holding sway in each and every room of this tranquil home.
Building a cabin in a semi-arid landscape where summers can get seething hot is a task that demands much more than mere aesthetics. Nestled near Lake Isabella and overlooking vast stretches of desert landscape in this southern Sierra Nevada retreat faces up to this scorching challenge and manages to come up trumps!
This stylish Aussie home is spread across two different structures that are linked by a common hallway and this allowed the architects to conquer the unique challenges that the sloped lot presented. In fact it is the topography of the site and sunlight that define the overall silhouette of this breezy home where the traditional lines between the interior and outdoors are blurred eloquently.
With a sloped lot and a hilly rear yard the house also presented a unique opportunity to add a steel catwalk that connects the newly added penthouse level directly with the rear yard. This turns the gorgeous backyard into a private and relaxing retreat even as the living area on the top floor offers unabated views of the city skyline and welcomes a healthy dose of natural ventilation indoors.
The resulting home is a fusion of the very best from both design philosophies as timeless architectural features are combined with trendy modern overtones. Textured plastered walls false ceilings that showcase the warmth of wood and iron and stone features were added to the modern interior to give it a more traditional sheen.
The second level hosts the kids’ playroom that would be transformed into a productive workspace with time and a mudroom that offers ample storage space. Kids’ bedrooms and additional utility areas occupy this floor while the third level contains the master suite home office and expansive breezy deck.
